Kenya National Private Security Workers Union (KNPSWU) Secretary General Isaac Andabwa says he has taken action against the decision by the County Government of Kakamega to fire 700 security workers.
In an interview with WKT, the vocal leader expressed shock at how the county could lay off 700 workers without giving them notice.
Andabwa said he has filed a case in the Court of Labour and Employment in Kakamega as a move to seek justice for the sacked security workers.
“As we speak now, my lawyer is in the Court of Labour and Employment, and the document is before the judge. I want to sit down with the Kakamega County leadership and ask them what the mistake was with the 700 workers. You just don’t remove them on contract and employ others.
“I am putting Governor Fernandes Barasa on notice over unfair labor practices. Even if you are my friend, when terminating workers, you must follow the law,” he said.
Andabwa has urged security guards all over the country to register with KNPSWU for protection against violations of their rights.
