A 47-year-old man from Mukonge village in Mautuma Ward in Lugari Sub-County, Kakamega County, has been arrested for allegedly raping a 21-year-old woman.
The suspect, Thomas Hamisi, a family man, is being held at the Turbo Police Station following the incident that allegedly occurred on Thursday last week at the victim’s home.
Mukonge village elder Eliphan Ahori confirmed the incident and said that he received a report from the mother of the victim who called at his home, saying that her daughter, Maureen Nekesa, had been raped in their own house.
“When I got to the victim’s house, I found the girl in a critical condition. I asked them to report to the hospital and to the nearest police station. I also alerted the chief,” the village elder said.
Nekesa, the victim, narrated what transpired and said she heard a knock on the door at around 5 p.m. on that fateful day. Her mother had gone to the shop to buy sugar.
“I was worn out because I was sickly. The door was open. When he got in, he took off his clothes and did the unthinkable to me,” Nekesa said, and she requested help seeking medical care after she developed complications following the incident.
Maureen’s mother said it was determined that her daughter had been raped when she was taken to the hospital.
She said her daughter suffers from epilepsy and is afraid the incident will escalate her situation.
Police have commenced investigations and will be arraigning the suspect in court to answer charges of rape or attempted rape.
