Vihiga Senator Godfrey Atieno Osotsi has dismissed claims linking members of the Luo community to the recent attack on him in Kisumu, calling on Kenyans to refrain from ethnicising the incident.
Speaking after the assault, the senator clarified that the individuals who attacked him should not be associated with any community. He emphasized that he has consistently enjoyed cordial relations with residents in Kisumu and other parts of the Nyanza region, noting that he has often been warmly received during his visits.
Osotsi’s remarks come amid growing public debate, with sections of leaders and online users attempting to frame the incident along ethnic lines. However, he urged restraint, warning that such narratives risk fueling unnecessary division and tension.
Leaders across the political divide, including Boni Khalwale, have echoed his sentiments, condemning the attack while stressing that it should be treated purely as a criminal act. They cautioned against attempts to exploit the incident to advance ethnic or political agendas.
Meanwhile, three individuals associated with the attack were arraigned in the Kisumu Law Courts on Thursday as police continue with investigations.
