A food vendor in Kakamega Town is nursing injuries after being pelted with stones by an angry customer during a dispute over a Sh10 increase in the price of a plate of ugali and omena.
The incident took place on Thursday, September 3, at a small canteen in the Makaburini area on the outskirts of Kakamega town, during the lunchtime rush.
According to the hotel’s owner, Geoffrey Mushira, a regular customer walked in and handed a waiter a Sh100 note to pay for his usual plate of ugali-omena, expecting Sh10 in change as he had on previous visits. He was informed that the price had gone up—from Sh90 to Sh100—meaning there would be no change to collect.
The customer reportedly reacted with anger and confronted Mushira directly over the increase. The confrontation escalated quickly, and before Mushira could explain the reason behind the price adjustment, the customer allegedly picked up stones and struck him.
Speaking to NTV about the attack, Mushira said he was struck before he had a chance to fully explain the situation, describing the customer’s shock at the sudden price change.
The suspect fled the scene immediately after the assault and has not yet been apprehended. Police are said to be looking for him.
