Drama unfolded in Kanduyi, near Bungoma town, after the family of Diana, a Ugandan woman found dead in a brothel over the weekend, returned to the scene carrying her body.
In a chilling ceremony, they used a live chicken to “capture her spirit” before leaving for Uganda with the bird and her bedding.
The unusual ritual left locals whispering in hushed tones, with many convinced that those responsible for her death will soon face severe cultural consequences.
The drama followed the discovery of Diana’s body inside a room along a street associated with commercial sex work, behind Bungoma West Hospital, on Saturday morning.
The woman, believed to be in her late 20s, bore visible injuries, and bloodstains found inside the room pointed to a struggle before her death.
Her body was moved to Bungoma County Referral Hospital mortuary, where a post-mortem examination was expected to be conducted to help determine the cause of death.
