A middle-aged man in Shikoti Village in Kakamega County has been left with more questions than answers after his wife got pregnant despite him undergoing a vasectomy.
The man, Medclay, 36, decided to procure a vasectomy at a hospital in Navakholo in mid-2022 after careful consideration with his wife, Beryl, 33, with whom he had sired three children.
The procedure was done by local doctors funded by a non-governmental organization.
“I felt like we have always left family planning to women, and so after we got three children, I wanted to take the responsibility and go through the procedure myself,” Medgclay, a health practitioner, said in a video by Citizen Digital.
Twelve months later, the man was stunned to get the news that his wife was pregnant and was expecting in June this year. Medgclay said he does not understand how this happened, but he casts doubt on how the procedure was done.
“I had been told that we would be safe for twenty ejaculations after the procedure, which is three months or thereabouts, so until October we knew we were safe,” he revealed.
Her wife had missed her periods in November, but the couple ignored it as a case of irregular menses. To their utter belief, they were informed in December that they would be expecting a fourth child.
“It was such a stressful time for us because my wife had undergone two caesarean sections prior to that. We were informed that this happens when there are some sperm left in the ducts or just a failure of the whole procedure,” he said.
Beryl, her wife, said they trust each other, and her husband doesn’t suspect any mischief from her.
“We trust each other, and we are believers, so there have never been issues of fearing the other party might be up to something bad,” she says.
