Churches in Bungoma have been given 30 days to update their certification, failure to which they will be shut down.
Bungoma police commander Francis Kooli said the churches will be required to display registration certificates at the entrances, and pastors will need to have a theology certificate too.
The government is tightening laws regulating churches following the Shakahola massacre, which has so far claimed the lives of 235 people as of Thursday.
