Kenyan househelp dies after collapsing while playing with employer’s son in Saudi Arabia

A Kenyan domestic worker identified as Joyce Nangila has died in Saudi Arabia after collapsing while playing with her employer’s young son in a heartbreaking incident captured on video.

The video, which has circulated on social media, shows Joy, who hails from Bungoma County, and the young boy kicking a red ball back and forth inside their employer’s house.

The seemingly playful moment takes a tragic turn when Joy appears to experience difficulty breathing. She pauses, holds her chest, and suddenly collapses to the floor.

Her employer, who was recording the interaction, is heard calling her name before rushing to check on her, as the young boy looks on in shock.

Joy was reportedly rushed to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Reports indicate that she suffered a heart attack, although independent medical confirmation of the cause of death has not been made public.

Her death was announced by her close friend, Ruth Kerubo, who expressed shock over the sudden loss.

In a social media tribute, Kerubo revealed that she had communicated with Joy shortly before the incident. She recalled that Joy had reached out to ask about the best application for ordering sneakers, making the news of her death even more difficult to comprehend.

Kerubo also urged Kenyans working in Saudi Arabia to prioritize their health and speak up whenever they experience difficulties rather than continue working while unwell.

Joy’s death has renewed conversations about the welfare of Kenyans working in the Gulf, particularly domestic workers employed in private households.

Thousands of Kenyans seek employment opportunities in Saudi Arabia and other Gulf countries, but concerns over migrant workers’ welfare, access to healthcare, and emergency support continue to feature in public discussions.
