A family in Vihiga County is mourning the death of a teenage boy whose body was retrieved from River Yala after he drowned while swimming with friends.
The teenager, identified as Bramwel Musalia, had gone to the river with two friends. A video obtained by WKT shows the pair recording him as he struggled in the water, seemingly unaware of the danger he was in before he was overwhelmed by the strong currents.
According to accounts from witnesses, the situation turned tragic when Musalia was swept away by strong currents while in the water. His friends were unable to rescue him as the force of the river quickly overwhelmed him.
A search operation was launched following the incident, with efforts focused on locating his body. The retrieval, carried out days later, brought a painful end to the search that had left family members and residents anxiously waiting.
The incident has left the local community in shock, with calls for increased caution when swimming in rivers, particularly during periods when water levels and currents are unpredictable.
Musalia’s death adds to growing concerns over safety in natural water bodies, with authorities and residents urging young people to exercise care during such outings.
