Nabii Nabwera apologizes to Lugari residents for supporting Barasa in 2022

Lugari MP Nabii Nabwera has apologized to residents for supporting Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa during the 2022 General Election, saying he did not know the governor’s “true character” at the time.

Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony for an eight-story building at St. Louis Saisi Comprehensive School in Mukuyu Sub-Location, Mautuma Ward, Nabwera said he would ensure Barasa faces a difficult political contest in the coming elections.

“I sincerely apologize to the people of Lugari for bringing Barasa into the 2022 political contest. I did not know he had hidden his true character. But I will ensure that he does not have an easy time politically. He called us mosquitoes, and he must go home,” Nabwera said.

The MP’s remarks came amid renewed criticism of Barasa’s administration, with leaders accusing the county government of failing to deliver adequate development across Kakamega County.

All six Lugari Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) accompanied Nabwera during the ceremony, in what political analysts described as a show of political strength.

The MCAs included Grey Moi of Lugari, Charles Anyona of Mautuma, Benard Mulama of Lumakanda, Pius Barlex Juma of Chevaywa, Titus Kwoma of Chekalini, and Dan Mukhwami of Lwandeti.

During their speeches, the MCAs reaffirmed their support for Nabwera and criticized Barasa’s leadership. They also revisited an incident in Lumakanda in which MCAs representing Lumakanda and Lugari were attacked and injured, accusing county ombudsman Nelson Majimbo of betrayal.

The groundbreaking ceremony marked the start of construction of the eight-story building, a project valued at more than KSh20 million.

The facility is expected to be completed in April 2027 and improve learning infrastructure at St. Louis Saisi Comprehensive School.
