Lugari Deputy County Commissioner, Moses Gicharu, has issued yet another warning to perpetrators of the trade in illicit brews in the sub-county, saying he will not rest until the activity comes to an end.
Mr. Gicharu said this while addressing the issue of insecurity during a baraza with area chiefs and locals in Mautuma Ward on Wednesday.
The DCC expressed concern with how old and young people alike have resorted to either dealing in the trade or drinking the illicit brews despite numerous warnings and crackdowns by his officers.
“How can someone tell you that chang’aa can educate you? Where in this country? My people, chang’aa will drive you to the grave. You will leave your generation in a dilemma. One day, God will ask me, You were in Lugari; what did you do to help my people?”
Gicharu warned those threatening police officers who try to curb the rise of brewing cases.
He also urged residents who want to get licenses for selling molasses to follow the right procedure.
He urged the locals to maintain peace and shun crime.
“Peace starts with you. We cannot put police on your doorstep; make sure where you live you know each other. When you suspect something unusual, visit the nearest police station,” he said.
