Six students of Mbithi High School in Vihiga County have been confirmed dead in a grisly road accident near Delamere farm in Naivasha.
The accident occurred after a Nissan matatu they were travelling in collided with a lorry along the Nairobi- Nakuru highway.
Naivasha OCPD Samuel Waweru, confirmed the accident said the Nissan was carrying students from a boarding school headed towards Nairobi.
Books, shoes, school bags and other personal material could be seen scattered at the scene as onlookers watched in shock.
Police arrived at the scene of the accident to clear the traffic snurl-up that was building up.
The Kenya Red Cross affirmed in a statement that the accident occurred at 1:55 pm when the PSV shuttle belonging to SWAT Sacco collided with a transit trailer and lost control before crashing into a lorry.
“Among the passengers were 11 students and a driver from Mbihi Friends High School. Our KRCS team has set up a tracing desk at the hospital to support the affected families,” the statement read in part.
