The Member of the County Assembly (MCA) for Mautuma Ward, Charles Anyona, has recorded a statement with the police claiming that his life is in danger after an altercation with Lugari MP Nabii Nabwera’s bodyguard.
The ward rep said the alleged bodyguard, Lordrick Wanjala, alias Likhanga Junior, threatened him at a function to commission 150 water tanks for schools by Kakamega Women Rep Elsie Muhanda in Kakamega.
“He has done this openly in front of my fellow MCAs. Let me quote his statement: ‘Nitakufinya upende usipende.’” The MCA said, adding that he reported the matter at the DCC’s office this evening in Kakamega and took an OB number.
In a call with the Western Kenya Times, the leader dismissed claims that no love is lost between him and the MP and accused his supporters of fueling a non-existent beef.
“Me and the MP are good friends. We always involve each other in our activities. The claim that we are on bad terms is not true, and I believe what happened today is because his supporters hold a grudge that is unnecessary,” he said.
Lordrick Wanjala, the accused, denied threatening the MCA’s life and said it was he who insulted him the moment they met at the event.
“Maybe he became furious after I failed to greet him when he arrived. I couldn’t even because his car’s windows were closed, and I went ahead to greet Balex (Chebaywa MCA). He is the one who told Balex to tell me to stop talking foul about him and then started insulting me, but I kept quiet,” he said.
Likhanga Junior said he is ready to appear before the police in case he is summoned.
