Kakamega traders have woken up to shocking news this morning after a man was found murdered inside one of the market stalls.
The unidentified person is believed to have been brutally murdered last night by unknown assailants. He appeared to have been hit with a blunt object on the head, which might have led to severe bleeding and death.
This follows another incident in which two more people are fighting for their lives at the Kakamega Teaching and Referral Hospital in what is believed to be a similar scenario.
Traders in the town are expressing worry as they fear for their lives as well as their businesses being in danger.
Cases of insecurity have been rampant in the town, evident from a series of cases in which people have been found either assaulted or murdered. Last month, a tout was murdered in a similar fashion, while last December, a security guard was badly hacked by unknown people at night and is still recuperating.
There have also been frequent cases of shops being broken into at night.
One of the traders expressed her concerns to the county government, saying: “We pay money to the county every day, but our things cannot be protected. Why do we have to pay if they cannot guarantee us our safety?”
Insecurity at night in Kakamega town is the main reason most businesses close very early in the evening, with some closing as early as 4 pm.
The traders hope that a permanent solution will be found.
The body of the deceased has been taken away by the police.
