Again: Premises on fire at Mukhonje after oil tankers collided

“We have not seen drivers of the two trucks coming out. They could be dead.”

Several people are feared dead after an inferno erupted at Mukhonje trading center along the Eldoret-Webuye highway moments after two oil tankers collided.

Several shops and buildings are also on fire.

A witness has told the Western Kenya Times that the two trucks were heading towards Webuye when one hit the other from the rear.

“A fire erupted immediately. We haven’t seen the drivers come out so it is possible they are dead,” he said.

People from as far as 1000 miles away have reported seeing clouds of smoke emanating from the scene.

“What is happening in Mukhonje? I can see a huge cloud of smoke,” someone inquired from us.

Police from Mukhonje have already arrived at the scene and the witness says there is a traffic snarl up on the ever busy highway.

This comes months after a similar accident happened last year when a petrol tanker hit an electric post, leading to several casualties and premises being burnt to ashes.
