Two children have died after drowning in a deep borehole in Lumakanda town in Lugari Sub-County, Kakamega County, in a shocking incident a while ago.

The two boys are pupils at Lumakanda Township Primary School.

One of them, a Class Seven, drowned after falling into the pit while drawing water, and the other, a Grade Three, is said to have suffered the same fate while trying to rescue his brother.

A resident of the area, who spoke to the Western Kenya Times on phone, said their mother was rescued after she too fell inside while trying to save her children.

“Their mother was lucky enough to be rescued while saving them,” the resident said.

Mourners are already flocking to the stricken home to condole with the family.

The bodies of the two minors have been taken to Kimbilio Mortuary in the neighboring Uasin Gishu County.

CONDOLENCES: The Western Kenya Times family is deeply saddened by the incident and we wish the family a quick relief. May the soul of the departed kids rest in eternal peace.
