A woman in Mugunga in Mautuma Ward, Lugari Constituency, is pleading with people of goodwill to step up and enable her two disabled children to access education.
Linet Khasoa, 42, the mother of two daughters, one a 3-years-old and deaf while the other a 9-years old and dumb, said poverty remains her undoing in shaping up the life of her two kids.
The 9-year-old daughter, Pirisira Mukanzi, got a chance to join Mlimani Special School but wasn’t able to secure it for lack of fees.
“My daughter wants to learn but poverty has created a vacuum since I don’t have a source of income. I work on people’s farms so that I can get a living. My husband works on a pushcart in town and is unable to pay for their fees. I’m appealing to anyone out there to help me so that my kids can go to school,” Mama Khasoa pleaded.
She is also educating her son Ayiekha, who is in Form Three.
Her neighbor Mama Emily said the family is struggling to make a living and meet other needs.
“She lives in demanding conditions, her house leaks when it rains and she has tried sealing the holes with cartons and stones. I cried when I saw it for myself,” mama Emily said.
Ms. Khasoa is now pleading with local leaders and well-wishers to help her improve her life and that of her children.
