Sang’alo College student assaulted by security guards had sneaked in despite suspension

The viral video of the student being assaulted has sparked an uproar on social media.

A student caught in a video being assaulted by two security guards at Sang’alo Institute of Science and Technology in Bungoma had sneaked into the school.

Fredrick Otieno Madowo, 26, suffered injuries to his head after the assault seen in a video that has so far made the rounds on social media and caused uproar.

Madowo was suspended from the institution last year for allegedly organising a students’ strike in November 2020 and in 2021 and is said to have sneaked in illegally before the guards confronted him.

The guards took him to a police station on accusations of assaulting them and being in the school illegally.

The student, with a bandage covering the whole of his head, told the media that he lost consciousness and almost died during the assault.

“My head was hurt, my thoracic vertebrae… I cannot nod. So far, so good. I am alive. I just have some small pressure, I have not been treated and I have no money,” Madowo told Citizen TV.

He added that he was in the school to train for the inter-college competition at Bumbe Technical College in Busia County by permission of his coach.

Sang’alo Institute principal Dr. Rosabella Chukwu has condemned the assault and confirmed that the student is safe and out of police hands.

Bungoma south sub-county commander Wilson Muraya said they are investigating the allegations.
