The fallen mother of Kakamega County Governor Fernandes Barasa, mama Philomena Mutelwa Barasa, will be laid to rest today at her home in Mumias East Constituency in a function expected to host dignitaries from across the country.
The function is speculated to see President William Ruto and his opponent, Azimio leader Raila Odinga, share a public forums after a long time of heightened election campaigns.
The requiem mass of the late lady will be held at Muroni Primary School grounds starting from 8.30 am and presided over by Rt. rev. Bishop Joseph Obanyi Sagwe of the Catholic Diocese of Kakamega.
Mama Philomena, who passed on on October 20, 2022 while 75, was born on April 4, 1947 as the firstborn child of the late Mzee Joseph Mate and Mama Rita Muhabi in Mukulusu Village in Muhanda Ward, Shinyalu Sub-county.
She worked as a nursery school teacher at Nabangala Primary School in Shinyalu Sub-county and later trained as a nurse at Kabuchoi Missionary School in Kapsabet.
She has left behind eight children including Governor Fernandes Barasa after suffering an illness she has been nursing since 2016.
Deputy Governor Ayub Savula has been in charge of the funeral plans.
Leaders from across the countries have grieved with the governor through condolence messages.
