Former Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala has been picked as the interim Secretary General of President William Ruto’s United Democratic Party, ditching Musalia Mudavadi’s Amani National Congress (ANC).
Malala, who was recently shortlisted for the position of Chief Administrative Secretary, now replaces Veronica Maina, who was nominated to serve in the Senate.
Malala will now be the party’s spokesperson and manager, reporting to various party organs and, apart from calling meetings, supervising policies and programs, writing and presenting reports, and keeping track of the party’s activities, among other roles.
Meanwhile, Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire was picked as the new interim party chairperson to replace Johnson Muthama, who resigned for the role of a non-MP member of the commission at the Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC).
East African Legislative Assembly MP Hassan Omar was picked as the party’s vice chairperson, while Japheth Nyakundi and Vincent Munyaka were appointed as treasurer and organizing secretary, respectively.
