Several people are feared dead after a fire erupted after three vehicles got involved in a grisly road accident at Chimoi, near Kaburengu and Webuye town.
According to a witness who posted on social media, the accident happened when an oil tanker rammed into a Probox that was carrying some passengers, eight in number, who are believed to have been burned to death.
Both the Probox and trailer went up in flames.
A truck also lost control and smashed into one of the vehicles.
Another witness said a police land cruiser was chasing the probox believed to be carrying illicit brew, chang’aa, from the direction of Mayanja in Bungoma County.
Rescue operations led by the Kakamega County Rescue Team with the help of residents are ongoing.
Residents could be seen trying to putt out the fire with the help of sand that poured from the truck.
