Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa has come out to oppose Thursday’s arrest and detention of Pastor Ezekiel Odero of the New Life Prayer Centre and Church.
The MP, through his Twitter account, said the actions of specific individuals should not be used to condemn the whole church.
“I don’t think it was warranted for police to arrest Pastor Ezekiel Odero,” part of his tweet read.
The two-term lawmaker suggested police should have gone for the likes of Yesu wa Tongaren, a self-proclaimed Jesus Christ from Bungoma County.
“One criminal who was running a cult (Paul Mackenzie) and another one referring to himself as Yesu wa Tongaren cannot be the cause or result of blanket condemnation of the church. God will punish us heavily for this… I strongly oppose this act,” he said.
Barasa’s reaction comes as Ezekiel remains in custody pending arraignment in court over links with Pastor Paul Mackenzie of Good News International Church, who is accused of radicalizing his followers and causing the deaths of more than 100 of them after instructing them to fast to death to meet their creator.
Ezekiel is accused of the deaths of followers in his church, which was closed yesterday, in a scandal that involves a funeral home.
