A family in Bungoma County is demanding answers on what happened to their newly born baby.
Joseph Mugai, a father from Kiboochi village in Webuye West Constituency, said his wife gave birth to a baby boy in an undisclosed hospital at around 4 a.m., only to be told by attendants that it had passed on.
The woman lost consciousness during the process and came around only to be told that she had lost her baby.
The family went on to bury the baby on Sunday, which was later exhumed by DCI officers from Webuye, claiming that they had received a court order for DNA samples.
“The officers came in a hurry and quickly exhumed the body and left, dismissing our questions. I was told to wait until tomorrow to get answers,” Elizabeth Maloba, the aunt of the deceased baby, said.
“When we went to pick up the body for burial, there was only one infant’s body at the place, so it cannot be a case of taking the wrong body. It leaves us with so many questions,” Moses Wafula, a relative, said.
Bungoma County Health Minister, Andrew Wamalwa, said they are still waiting for a full report from the hospital on what happened.
