Kakamega County to hold music and cultural festival

Kakamega County will hold a music and cultural festival under the theme “Preserving and Celebrating Heritage through Performing Arts” as a platform for youths to showcase talent.

Speaking on Friday at the Mumias Cultural Centre in Mumias West Sub-County, the County Deputy Director of Administration, Cyril Mululu, announced that the festival, which will feature music and dance, elocutions, poems and theatre performances, will be held later this year.

Mululu, who presided over the meeting on behalf of the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Social Services, Sports, Youth, Gender and Culture, Mophat Mandela, said the event will offer opportunities to artists gifted in different fields.

“This is in line with Governor Fernandes Barasa’s social development agenda that focuses on the event for performers,” he added.

Winners in various categories will have the opportunity to perform at the Goevrnor’s gala in November, ahead of the 99th edition of the Kenya Music and Cultural Festivals.

Artists will be identified and registered at the ward level by sub-county and ward administrators before participating at the sub-county level before selections for the county are made.
