Two people drowned this week in separate incidents in western Kenya.
In the first incident, the body of a 38-year-old man, George Opiya, was discovered in a local stream in Kwanza, Trans Nzoia County.
Police established that the victim was trying to cross the swollen stream before he was overpowered and drowned.
In another incident, a six-year-old boy from Webuye in Bungoma County drowned after going on a swimming expedition.
His body was found on Sunday floating in the Webuye stream near the National Estate area, police confirmed.
The bodies of the deceased were taken to different mortuaries pending postmortem analyses.
Officials have warned that drowning cases may increase with the ongoing El Nino rains.
The heavy rains have caused about 17 deaths countrywide in the past week alone, amid flooding.
