The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested the Busia County Public Service Board for attempting to interfere with an ongoing investigation into allegations of corruption, abuse of office and illegal recruitments in the County Government of Busia.
The official was arrested by detectives at her office in Busia town and escorted to the EACC Bungoma Regional Offices, where she’s being held to help with investigations.
The official is accused of refusing to comply with orders of the Commission to provide evidentiary material, which is official documentation required by the Commission to facilitate investigations.
“The law prohibits any attempt by any person to obstruct lawful investigations in any manner, including the failure to avail required documents, as is in this case,” EACC says.
“Public officials in both national and county governments are reminded that it is mandatory to cooperate and comply with all lawful orders issued in respect to an investigation.”
“This is not the first case that some officials in the County Government of Busia have attempted to resist investigations,” EACC said.
“The Commission is taking action against those involved in the schemes to cover malpractices.”
