The Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration, Kithure Kindiki, will today appear before the National Assembly to respond to critical issues affecting his docket, including the tragic deaths of two brothers who were shot dead by police on their way to work.
Lugari MP Nabii Nabii, a key advocate for the grieving family’s pursuit of justice, has tabled questions seeking updates on the ongoing investigations into the circumstances surrounding the deaths of Bonventure Ounza Olumbe and Calstus Apuoka on February 20, 2024.
The two brothers, who hail from Jordan Village in Mautuma Ward, Lugari Sub-County, were casual labourers at Neema Livestock and Slaughtering Investments, a company located in Luckysummer, Nairobi, that exports meat to the Arab world. Bonventure had worked for the company for two years, while Calistus had worked for six months.
They lived together and worked the same shift, which would vary across the morning hours based on the nature of orders. The two had been assigned a shift to begin at 3:30 am on the fateful day.
Accused of involvement in a local robbery incident, the brothers, despite surrendering and pleading to be taken to their workplace just a stone’s throw away for identification, were met with a devastating outcome. Bonventure was fatally shot at point-blank range, and Calistus met a similar fate after imploring the police to end his life upon witnessing his brother’s demise.
The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has called for public calm and restraint as they undertake a meticulous investigation into the matter.
Meanwhile, the family’s pursuit of justice persists, with the burial of the two brothers scheduled for the upcoming Saturday.
