The Kiwanja Ndege footbridge project in Lugari Sub-coungy, Kakamega County that had stopped due to some technical issues, has resumed.
The project, which came to a standstill in December 2, 2021, after the metal that was being mounted on the two concrete pillars across the banks of the Kipkaren River at Kiwanja Ndege Village collapsed and injured three workers, came back to life a week ago.
“Foundations to erect two more pillars to support the metal have been put up and the project is expected to be complete within the next two weeks,” Dickson Wasilwa alias Councillor Kuni, chairman of the Project Management Committee, confirmed.
This comes after the Western Kenya Times published a detailed report about the vandalism that was ongoing after the metal was neglected.
The Sh10 million project, which commenced on June 2, 2021 and was expected to be complete by December 12, 2021, is expected to provide a permanent and easy connection to residents of Lugari and Chekalini wards across the Kipkaren River.
The wide river has seen a number of people perishing while attempting to cross.
