Felix Ikala is out of the race to succeed Musa Makhapila as Lugari Ward MCA in the August 9 general elections.
In a detailed statement sent to the public, the young aspirant cited financial constraints and ‘stumbling blocks’ as his reason for taking leave from politics until 2027.
“I have lived to revere Lugari as a motherland and of service deserving. However, it has been a journey of absolute obstacles and stumbling blocks, financial constraints taking the center of it all,” he said.
Ikala, a former university leader, has blamed the “capitalist mentality and system deeply rooted in Lugari”, which he said has proved difficult for his philosophy to sail through.
“The culture of tokenism and handouts requires much more than exorcism. I embarked on a journey of rebuilding and restoring Lugari on the basis of meritocracy rather than mediocracy but the time limit makes the work to be a tall order,” part of his statement read.
The leader lamented that one has to spend on so many projects “proving to Lugarians you’re capable of leadership”.
Ikala, who was going to appear on the ballot as an independent candidate, has said he is not going to endorse any aspirant.
“That is something that I entirely leave to Lugarians to decide,” he wrote, urging his supporters to be patient.
He went ahead to state that he will still participate in activities beneficial to the people of Lugari Ward.
“Let the ward called Lugari get good leadership. God bless Lugari, God bless Lugarians,” he concluded.
