A showdown is expected at the Supreme Court of Kenya after the Azimio legal team filed a case challenging the declaration of William Ruto as the Fifth President-elect of the Republic of Kenya.
Chief Justice Martha Koome will be leading the seven-judge bench comprised of Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu, Justice William Ouko, Justice Mohammed Ibrahim, Justice (Dr.) Smokin Wanjala, Lady Justice Njoki Ndungu and Justice Isaac Lenaola.
Three teams involved in the landmark case, Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance led by Raila Odinga, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) headed by Wafula Chebukati and Kenya Kwanza led by William Ruto, have sought the services of top legal minds in the country to argue on behalf of their sides.
Raila has in his team Senior Counsels Otiende Amollo and Philip Murgor, Prof. Tom Ojienda, Pheroze Norwojee, Mutula Kilonzo and Dan Maanzo to petition the election.
IEBC, on its side, has former Attorney-General Githu Muigai, Senior Counsel Abdikadir Mohamed, Kamau Karori, Eric Gumbo, Peter Wanyama, and Edwin Mukele.
Ruto’s team that will help him defend his win is made up of counsels Fred Ngatia, Adrian Kamotho, Kithure Kindiki, Nelson Havi and Collins Kiprono.
