Just days after an IEBC returning officer attached to Embakasi East Constituency, Daniel Mbolu Musyoka, was found murdered in Kajiado County after mysteriously disappearing for a few days, another one has suffered the same fate.
Geoffrey Gitobu, a returning officer for Gichugu Constituency in Kirinyaga County, mysteriously died on Monday evening after collapsing outside IEBC offices in Nanyuki, Laikipia County.
Mr. Gitobu was confirmed dead after being rushed to Nanyuki Teaching and Referral Hospital.
Kirinyaga County returning officer Jane Gitonga said that Mr. Gitobu was off duty for three days to visit his family in Nanyuki and was to report back on Wednesday.
The cause of his death was not immediately established, according to a police report. An autopsy is underway.
The officer, who played a critical role in the August 9 general election, is said to have visited the IEBC offices in Nanyuki to print some forms when he met his death.
IEBC commissioner Wafula Chebukati is yet to issue a statement on the death of the official.
