Househelp jailed for feeding employer’s baby mucus, vaginal discharge

The magistrate said the woman exposed the baby to the danger of untreatable diseases.

A househelp has been sentenced five years in jail for abusing the child of her employer in Fedha Estate in Nairobi on July 2022 by feeding it mucus and vaginal discharge.

Catherine Nalianya, 20, was found guilty of child abuse by Magistrate Festus Terer of the Children’s Court. Mr. Terer said the accused exposed the minor to serious untreatable diseases after she forced it to swallow unhealthy body discharges.

“The accused herein is guilty of child abuse contrary to section 22 1 (a) of the Children’s Act,” he declared, despite Catherine pleading for leniency, saying she has a three-year-old child who depends on her.

The magistrate dismissed Nalianya’s claim that she had been framed, saying that her sentence will serve as a warning to like-minded individuals.

Witnesses told the court that the accused would insert her fingers into her private parts, extract a discharge and feed it to the baby. She also removed mucus from her nostrils and fed it to the kid.

The accused has 14 days to appeal the sentence.
