Parents in Nalondo, Bungoma County, held demonstrations in a bid to eject the principal of St. Joseph’s Nalondo Boys High School.
The irate parents, along with hundreds of students, accused the principal, Nicolas Onyango, of imposing on them a levy of KSh4000 to pay for the reconstruction of a dormitory that had been reduced to ashes.
PParents opposed the school’s decision, citing that the students were not responsible for the fire that brought down the dormitory.
The dormitory is said to have been brought down by electricity after lightning struck the house.
The school had scheduled a meeting with the parents, but the parents later boycotted it.
Josephine Simiyu, a parent with a student in Form Four, accused the principal of sending students home to bring reams of papers after clearing school fees.
At the same time, students claimed that the school principal had been insulting and accusing them before teachers.
Parents and students called upon the new Education Cabinet Secretary, Ezekiel Mochugu, to intervene and have the principal transferred.
When contacted for comments, the principal denied insulting and cursing students. On the issue of Ksh. 4000, he said the decision was reached during a board meeting.
