Police in Lugari Constituency, Kakamega County, are investigating an incident in which a woman from Lumama Village in Lugari Ward allegedly murdered her 4-year-old child by suffocating him with clothes.
Lugari Location Chief Evans Adavaji said the woman, Caroline Ombworo, who’s in her mid-20s, took the initiative after a quarrel with her husband, Enock Eshipapi.
The chief said the husband has been accusing Caro of cheating her way into the marriage.
“The man accused his wife of lying to him during their courtship about not having any children but later bringing home a son sired by another man. The husband has been demanding that she takes the boy to stay with the woman’s parents or his father for their marriage to survive,” the chief said.
Mr. Adavaji said the woman helped the police with preliminary investigations and didn’t act to conceal anything about the incident.
He said her husband was released from police custody after it was determined he had no case to answer.
The body of the deceased child, Billy Odhiambo, was taken to Chebaywa Mortuary by officers from Lumakanda Police Station as investigations continue.
