St. Cecelia Girls in Mautuma Ward, Lugari Constituency, has seen its performance graph rise steadily in the last five years, and this time round aims to set a new record.
The extra-county school scored a min of 4.5 in 2017 and managed to send 11 (C+ and above) out of 100 students to the university.
In 2018, 12 out of 102 students garnered university entry grades, and the school got a min score of 4.7, a slight improvement from the performance posted in 2017.
The school’s results would rise even higher in 2019 when it registered a min of 5.5 as 17 out of 100 students scored university entry grades.
In 2020, 107 candidates sat for KCSE, and 21 scored C+ and above required for direct entry to university as the school min rose to 5.59.
In 2021, 22 out of the 113 candidates scored university entry grades. The school’s min, however, dropped to 5.2.
In this year’s KCSE 2022, the school has 126 candidates registered for the exams. The school targets a min of 6.1 and 31 students to score a C+ and above.
Ms. Elizabeth Korir, the school principal, said that the students are ready for exams as they finished their syllabus as early as the second term and have been revising thoroughly.
“It’s rare to see my students get involved in indiscipline cases that lead to issues such as early pregnancies and school dropouts. I give credit to them,” she said.
She also highlighted some challenges the school is facing, such as insufficient classrooms, which have forced her to subdivide walls to try to solve the problem.
“We have tents, which they use as a dining hall. We are appealing to our MP, Nabii Nabwera, to help us build facilities here to the level of an extra-county school,” she said.
She also asked the MP to repair the Turbo-Mautuma Road to make it easier for students to travel to school, including those in day schools.
