Grief has enveloped Jerusalem Village of Mautuma Ward in Lugari Sub-county, Kakamega County, after a 78-year-old woman was raped and brutally killed in a robbery attack last night.
The village elder, Jane Sasaka, said she received the sad news of the murder of the old lady, Robai Khayala, whose property, including three bags of maize, was stolen by unknown people.
The thugs broke into her house by digging through the wall.
Her son, Leonard Wanjala, told the Western Kenya Times that the attackers must have had good information about her mother. He said the robbers took off her clothes, raped her, and assaulted her to death.
An injury on the head shows that the woman was hit by a stone on the head, Wanjala said.
“The thugs responsible must know her very well. She stays alone. It is our plea that relevant authorities take action,” he added.
Carol Nyakol, a neighbor, stated that this is not the first time the elderly woman has been attacked. The first time she raised alarm by screaming, she was saved by her neighbors.
Lugari MP Nabii Nabwera has condemned the heinous act and assured the family of swift justice and action against anyone involved.
“This is very inhumane. Those involved will face the law and pay for their brutality,” he told residents during his visit to the scene.
Police from Lumakanda have taken the body to Kimbilio Mortuary in Uasin Gishu County as investigations commence.
