Two suspected thieves steal gun, break out of police cell in Sikhendu

The duo was locked up after allegedly stealing two cows.

Police in Trans Nzoia County are searching for two robbery suspects who made away with a gun after breaking out of a cell at Sikhendu Police Station, where they were being held.

The two, Daniel Wanjala Sindani and Samuel Wafula Barasa, are said to have broken out of the cell through the ceiling and stolen an AK-47 rifle that was loaded with 14 bullets after accessing the armory.

Sikhendu Ward MCA, Andrew Sichangi, ruled out the possibility of suspects breaking out of the police cell and stealing firearms without any assistance from police officers.

“I am so disappointed. If that can happen, it means my people are not safe. Where were the police officers when that was happening?”

The MCA added that the suspects are said to have been put in police custody after stealing two cows, but the police delayed in arraigning them in court.

Two police officers who were on duty when the incident occurred have been arrested as investigations continue.
