Seven people have been confirmed dead in a grisly road accident on the outskirts of Migori town after the driver of a truck lost control and rammed into packed motorbikes and vehicles this morning.
At least three others are in a critical condition, while several others, suspected to be boda boda riders, are trapped in the wreckage, according to media outlets.
A pregnant woman and a young man were pushed into a nearby river.
Nyanza police boss Manasse Musyoka said recuse operations are underway and survivors have been rushed to hospitals.
“We understand a driver or some truck lost control and plowed into a crowd. Very unfortunate,” he said.
Azimio leader Raila Odinga has condoled with the families of the victims in the tragic accident.
“I offer my deepest sympathies to all those who have lost their loved ones, friends, and colleagues in the tragic accident that occurred this morning at the boda boda stage in Migori town,” he said.
