Here’s what happened before Bishop Njenga Girls’ student committed suicide

The student committed suicide in their house in Murram Village in Lwandeti Ward, Lugari Sub-County, in her school uniform on Thursday.

The class teacher of Danietta Melissa, a Form One student at Archbishop Njenga Girls’ High School in Lugari Sub-County in Kakamega County who was found dead after hanging herself, has commented on the incident.

The teacher, Felix Ingutia, said it is unlikely that the student committed suicide after she was sent home for a holiday assignment, as purported.

Mr. Ingutia revealed that the school sent home around 200 students on Thursday morning, some who had not completed their holiday assignments and others who had not cleared their fees.

The students who were sent home due to academic indiscipline for not completing their assignments were required to come back with their parents, as indicated in the leave-out form.

“If she were the only one sent away in my class, she’d be angry. In my class, there were only six who were sent home out of the 49. Out of those six, three came back with their parents and submitted their assignments. They wrote commitment letters not to repeat the mistake in future,” he said.

The class teacher explained that Danietta is usually a calm girl, and she did not show any signs of being disturbed.
