Lugari residents lament inflated price of sugar by shopkeepers

Residents claim traders are taking advantage of the current situation to inflate prices of commodities.

Residents in some parts of Lugari Sub-County in Kakamega County are lamenting manipulation by shopkeepers, whom they accuse of aiming to make maximum profit by setting the price of sugar too high.

A cross-check by WKT at Mlimani Market in Mautuma Ward, where residents have raised complaints, reveals that shopkeepers are selling the product at Sh250 per kilogram, Sh30 more than the normal price.

Other shops are selling the produce for Sh220 nationwide.

Moses Otieno, a resident, lamented how the behavior of the traders has worsened their situation and made some of them quit taking their favorite cup of tea.
