Teachers and pupils at Lugari Primary School in Lugari Sub-County, Kakamega County, are fearing for their lives after lightning struck the institution twice in a month.
The school community is now calling upon the local leadership to install arrestors to prevent the natural occurrence from causing harm.
Tom Onjoche, the deputy headteacher, said the incidences have led to fear among pupils and teachers whenever it is about to rain.
“The first incident, which occurred in early September, involved a teacher. The second one, which happened a few days ago, affected one of our female pupils. We are now worried it might strike again, and the consequences might be worse,” Onjoche said, as reported by the Kenya News Agency.
One of the teachers got injured in the first incident and a pupil in the second one, according to Boniface Muyuka, the school’s senior teacher.
The school management said if no arrestors are installed, they will be forced to end learning as soon as there’s a sign of rain.
