Business people at Lugari Station Market in Lugari Sub-County, Kakamega County, woke up to the horror of finding their stalls demolished and, in some cases, carted away by unknown people.
This shocking Thursday night incident has left at least ten small business owners, primarily mama mbogas, grappling with significant financial losses. The daunting prospect of rebuilding their stalls, which can cost up to Sh5,000, looms over them.
Protas Wamula, a concerned resident of the market, expressed his dismay at the incident, emphasizing what he perceives as a lack of seriousness on the part of local security agencies.
“There is a substantial security concern in this area. It’s alarming that such an incident could occur, especially when we have a police station in close proximity. Additionally, some of the lamps on the market’s floodlights are not functioning. Urgent action is needed,” he said.
He called upon the local leadership to step in and provide assistance to the affected traders in constructing new stalls.
Residents have united in their call for increased night patrols to prevent future incidents of this nature and safeguard their property.
The need for heightened security measures is evident, as these events not only disrupt the livelihoods of hardworking individuals but also erode the sense of safety within the community. It is imperative that swift action be taken to address these security challenges and provide the affected business owners with the support they need to rebuild their livelihoods.

From the leadership of market why only ten kiosks? Then if the flood lights are not working have they taken that matter to the MCA.
