The Director of Public Prosecutions is reviewing files linking Kakamega Deputy Governor Ayub Savula and others to a Sh122 million fraud case.
The DPP has informed the court that Savula and his co-accused still have a case to answer in the case accusing them of defrauding the government advertising agency.
Savula, along with former ICT PS Sammy Itemere, is accused of scamming the government of money meant for paying pending bills to advertisers.
“The new information is significant and is likely to affect the cause of this hearing and it’s on this basis that we ask this court to grant us two weeks to consult with the accused persons advocates,” the DPP told the court.
The court was informed that the application to adjourn the case was made in good faith and not to delay the trial, and that the DPP is committed to having the case heard as soon as possible.
The defense did not object to the DPP’s application and said, “We pray that our clients will be vindicated.”
