A Form One student at Igunga Girls’ High School in Vihiga County died on the spot after a personal car hit her and three others, who sustained injuries, while in school.
A tarmac road passes inside the school with classes on either side, and the students were crossing to go for morning preps when the accident occurred.
The injured were rushed to Mbale Hospital. Two of them were discharged, while the third was admitted after her condition was deemed serious.
“Out of the three students, two were stable enough to go home, while the other one will remain behind for further management of her injuries, as the way she is presenting indicates severe damage,” Mbale Hospital Superintendent Zimbule said, as quoted by Kenyans.
Residents are calling upon the government to install speed bumps on the road.
