A pastor from Umoja Village in Lugari Location of Lugari Sub-County, Kakamega County, found himself in hot soup after he was bursted in a neighbour’s bedroom in a botched night date with a married woman.
The well-dressed and highly regarded clergyman at the Anglican Church of Kenya in Lugari Centre, known as Etale alias Mugambi, fell into a trap set by his neighbour and his neighbour’s wife.
Joseph Mbinji, the assistant village elder, while confirming the incident, said that Etale trespassed the neighbour’s compound to see the woman, believed to be his long-time lover, assuming her husband was away spending the night with his second wife.
“Etale was enticed into the bedroom by his lover, only for the husband to unexpectedly emerge from another room and pounce on him. Amidst the chaos, the wife began screaming, alerting other neighbours that a thief had invaded their home,” Mr. Mbinji told WKT.
Onlookers at the scene were puzzled by how a respected clergyman from an affluent family could be perceived as a thief. Upon investigation, they were astonished to discover that he had actually gone to rendezvous with his lover.
Etale, along with the accused wife, Josephine Tom and her husband appeared before a baraza. In accordance with Luhya traditions, the pastor was fined a sheep and Sh5,000.
Despite the ordeal, Josephine and Tom reconciled their differences and remained together.
