Such cases have been rampant in the area.

A 19-year-old woman from Kimilili Sub-County in Bungoma County allegedly strangled her newborn baby four days after giving birth at Webuye County Hospital.

The woman was arrested and is now in custody assisting with investigations after she was reported by the hospital management.

The woman is said to have killed her baby girl in the hospital nursery.

“Post-mortem has not yet been conducted to ascertain whether the woman killed her child,” Webuye County Hospital Medical Superintendent Simon Kisaka said.

Mr. Kisaka revealed that such incidents have been rampant in the area where women give birth and kill newborns, throwing them in pit latrines, rivers, or abandoning them at the roadside.

Webuye East Sub-County Commander Martha Ngetich is advising young couples to seek guidance on matters affecting them.

She is also calling upon Kenyans to join various stakeholders to ensure the younger generation grows up with morals and discipline.
