Former Funyula MP Dr. Paul Otuoma has been declared the winner of the Busia ODM gubernatorial nominations after beating his closest opponent Florence Mutua, who is the county’s women representative.
Otuoma scooped a whooping 49,330, beating Florence who garnered 30,696 votes.
Otuoma, while addressing the media last evening, said he was satisfied with the results.
“I believe in the ODM party. And when ODM succeeds in doing something, the whole family succeeds.
“I hope this will be replicated in all places that we do a credible nomination process and after that, it becomes the responsibility to bring the family of ODM together,” a triumphant Otuoma said.
He thanked his opponent Ms. Mutua and referred to her as a “worthy competitor”.
Otuoma, who was recently endorsed to run for the seat by the Teso Council of Elders, will be facing off with Arthur Odera in the August 9 polls in a bid to succeed Governor Sospeter Ojaamong.
In the nominations, Catherine Omanyo bagged the Women Representative ticket after beating Beatrice Nakholi. Ms. Omanyo received 17,641 votes while Ms. Nakholi got 23,273 votes. Riziki Ojiambo came a distant third with 16,219 votes.
