Food prices to shoot even higher due to low rains

Kenyans are already lamenting the hiking of food prices which are set to go higher.

The price of food and basic commodities is expected to shoot up according to a recent report by the World Bank.

The report released in June 2022 dubbed Kenya’s Economic Update revealed that one out of three households lacks essential and basic foodstuffs due to an increase in the price of the commodities by 36%, with higher rates of 38% in most rural areas.

The report shows that the situation is expected to worsen due to below-average rains that are reducing agricultural production.

As of now, a 2kg packet of maize flour retails at KShs 160, wheat flour at KShs 209, and rice KShs 150 in Bungoma town.
