Ex-Sirisia MP John Munyasia’s wife, Janet Khaoya Munyasia, is among three people who died from a grisly road accident that occurred along the Kitale-Webuye highway on Saturday.
Seven others are nursing serious injuries after a matatu they were traveling inside collided with a tractor that was pulling a water bowser from Kiminini to Webuye at around 8 pm last evening.
Trans Nzoia County Police Commander Jecinta Wesonga, while confirming the incident, said the bowser disengaged from the tractor, rolled backwards and hit the matatu which was behind it at a climbing lane in Matunda.
“Three people died on the spot and seven others, including the driver of the matatu, sustained severe injuries,” she said.
Mrs. Munyasia’s sister Caren Khaoya said the deceased, who usually drives herself, boarded a matatu at Kitale town to go meet her husband and son who were waiting for her in Bungoma.
The bodies of the deceased were taken to Kitale County Referral Hospital mortuary while the injured are receiving treatment at the same facility.
