Two clerics have been charged with gang-raping a woman in Lumakanda, Lugari Sub-county in Kakamega County.
Danson Malea, a pastor of an African Divine Church (ADC), and Sheikh Stephen Barasa’s case will be heard again on July 25 after they appeared before Eldoret Resident Magistrate Grace Barasa on July 4.
The two denied the charges and were released on a Sh500,000 bond each, with a surety of the same amount.
Mr. Malea and Mr. Barasa, in the company of others not before the court, are said to have broken into the house of a woman in Lumakanda at night and tormented her till 3 am on August 2 and 3, 2019.
The woman told the court that the two men and their accomplices raped her in turns in the presence of her two children, aged five and two.
She was later treated at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital.
Alternative charges heaved on them stated that the two assaulted the woman and committed an indecent act without her consent, while the third charge was of stealing from the victim.
They allegedly made away with a Tecno mobile phone valued at Sh7,000 and Sh700 in cash, which was recovered.
